Does Joe Biden relativize the genocide in China? “There are different cultural norms in every country”

Trump clearly criticized China’s handling of minorities. Biden relativizes them as “cultural norms” – and explains to us why the Chinese President Xi Jinping could not act otherwise.

Trump administration spoke clearly of “genocide”

China is one of the largest and most totalitarian countries in the world. Ethnic minorities such as the Uyghurs and Tibetans are systematically repressed. Chinese are deliberately settled in their areas in order to displace the native population.

There are currently over a million Uyghurs in internment and re-education camps. Prisoners are forcibly sterilized, tortured, forced to work and have abortions. That is why Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke of “genocide”.

Chinese President “uses his common sense”

Before the election, Biden also spoke of genocide. But in a recent conversation with CNN, he tried to justify China’s dealings with ethnic minorities. In Chinese history, “China was harassed by the outside world … when it was not united at home”.

He then explains: “Xi Jingping’s central principle must be a united, strictly controlled China. And he uses his reason for his actions, which are based on it.” He also explained to Xi: “No American president can keep himself in office if he does not reflect the values of the United States.”

After enumerating Chinese offenses and stammering, Biden concludes: “He understands! Culturally there are different norms in each country and their leaders are expected to follow them.” Even Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau does not yet want to speak of genocide, because the term must be “clearly and properly justified and proven”.
